Hair Transplant Methods

There are two main methods commonly used in hair transplantation: FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) and DHI (Direct Hair Implantation).

FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) Method

This method, performed under local anesthesia, is applied without making any incisions in the scalp. This increases the patient's comfort both during the operation and in the recovery period. FUE procedures do not result in wounds or stitch marks, which improves the patient's appearance aesthetically and reduces post-operative concerns.

The procedure is performed with a device called a micromotor. The tip of this device is equipped with a punch biopsy tool with a diameter of 0.6 to 0.8 mm, which extracts hair follicles along with the tissue. The obtained follicles are placed into micro channels opened in the bald areas.

DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) Method

DHI stands for Direct Hair Implantation and is essentially a type of FUE method. The difference lies in the implantation phase of the hair follicles. In this method, hair follicles are placed directly into the target area using special pens called Choi pens, without the need to open channels. The follicles are implanted at appropriate angles through special perforated needles at the tips of the Choi pens.

Hair Transplant Process

The steps followed in a hair transplant are as follows:

1. **Planning:** The number of grafts to be transplanted, the number of sessions, the transplant areas, and necessary tests are determined. Additionally, the hairline and other pre-operative details are planned. Anesthesia consultation is important for high-risk patient groups.

2. **Local Anesthesia:** The area to be transplanted is numbed with local anesthetic drugs. This process ensures numbness within 3 to 5 minutes.

3. **Graft Extraction:** The extraction area is inflated with a special solution, making the hair follicles more accessible. The follicles extracted with a micromotor are preserved with special solutions.

4. **Channel Opening:** The hairline is determined, and the transplant area is numbed with local anesthesia. Channels are opened with special tools. In the DHI method, channels are not needed; the follicles are directly implanted using Choi pens.

5. **Graft Implantation:** Before implantation, the patient views the follicles. During the implantation process under local anesthesia, the patient does not feel pain. The follicles are placed into the opened channels.

6. **Dressing and Medications:** After the transplantation, the area is cleaned and dressed. Necessary medications (antibiotics, pain relievers, anti-swelling) are provided, and post-operative care instructions are given to the patient.
